'Inspired by Nature 4'

Friends of the Geelong Botanical Gardens Exhibition

This Spring art@wintergarden will host the well known Botanical art exhibition Inspired by Nature 4.

Botanical illustration is commonly known as the art of depicting the form, colour, and details of plant species. This is captured in watercolour paintings and drawings. The creation of these requires an understanding of plant morphology and access to specimens and references.

Exhibited works will include fruits and vegetables from the productive parts of the garden as well as the macro world of trees and the micro world of fungi. Artists work on their subject matter from real life and often take two or three seasons for works to reach completion, matching the natural life cycle of the plant material they are illustrating.

Amongst the exhibiting group are some highly accomplished artists whose work is included in Collections in the UK and USA, including the Prince of Wales Collection at Highgate, and recently a number of artists have completed commissions to be included in a Floreligium illustrating plants of the Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney.

This year acclaimed tutors John Pastoriza - Pinol, Rita Parkinson and Dolores SK Molloni are also exhibiting works. The group is represented by a wide community including people from Geelong, the Surfcoast and some travelling from Melbourne. They travel to the Geelong Botanic Gardens to attend these specialised classes and enjoy the atmosphere that is so special at our wonderful gardens.

The exhibition opens on October 1 and runs through till October 28, 2015.

Gallery open 10am – 4pm daily

Official opening: Friday 2 October 5 - 6.30pm
