Through My Eyes

Zonta Club of Geelong International Women’s Day Art Exhibition 2014

The Zonta Club of Geelong will celebrate International Women’s Day by holding their annual Art Show which opens this Friday 28th February at 6.30pm. The Opening Night will include the announcement of the 1st Prize – the winner receiving the Jan Mitchell Memorial Art Award of $1,000. With over 50 entries received by local artists it will be a difficult decision for the judges.

This year’s theme is International Women’s Day – Through My Eyes. The Opening Night will be from 6.30-8.30pm at art@aintergarden, 51 McKillop Street. Entry is $5 which includes a glass of wine on arrival and canapés.

A highlight of the evening will also be an auction of six uniquely decorated lamps. These have been decorated by locals including Geelong personality Helen Hinckfuss. Michelle Winckle from Hayeswinckle real estate will preside over the auction. Money raised from the auction will help support the Zonta Club of Geelong’s service and advocacy work. The aim of Zonta is to advance the status of women at a local, national and international level.

The Art Show will be open daily from 10am till 4pm until 14th March. Visitors on opening night and over this weekend will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite painting. The artist with the most votes will receive the “people’s choice” award. All Art work will be for sale.

Collectively Independent

Collectively Independent is the exciting new exhibition to run at art@wintergarden from March 14 to April 1, 2014. Opening Sunday 16 March at 3pm the exhibition features current work by four local women artists - Nellie Maertzdorf Ellis, Gaye Nieuwenhof, Laura Osborne and Pam Wansink. Each artist has approached the exhibition differently.

Introduced to printmaking in Paris, Laura Osborne has identified common day household articles such as jugs, flyswats and other utilitarian objects as domestic beacons. Through her work she depicts everyday objects in a different light.

Pam Wansink has recently been experimenting with mixed media and creates interesting abstract works that offer the viewer time to contemplate.

While depicting the abstract landscape Gaye Nieuwenhof takes on the subject of environmental issues.

Nellie Maertzdorf Ellis has been experimenting with the copper plate etching technique. Her small and large etchings reflect on joy-filled subjects such as clowns.

Laura Osborne, Pam Wansink, Gaye Nieuwenhof and Nellie Maertzdorf Ellis are four independently established Geelong artists with diverse artistic practices coming together to showcase selected works highlighting their individual strengths and creativity.... be prepared for wonderful surprises!

Exhibition runs from March 14 – April 1, 2014 and is open 10am – 4pm daily.
