Homage to the Masterpiece

August sees art@wintergarden inspired by The Masters.

Through our new exhibition "Homage to the Masterpiece", we bring to life well known art works igniting the imagination with art, music and theatre.

Artists have been selected from the Geelong region and through their art have taken a trip through time to reflect on works by great artists who resonate with them. The Great Masters' works were characterised by extreme technical skill and a certain sense of distinctive and sometimes haunting beauty which has kept the artwork popular through the centuries. Since the time period for works of art classified as old masters is broad, a huge assortment of artistic styles and techniques are encompassed under this umbrella term.

Artists exhibiting are:
Louise Price, Noreen Salt, Andrew Whiting, Raja Norzlipah, Joe Kemerer and Jill Shalless.

To compliment the exhibition there will be a creative collaboration with Director Kirsty Reilly in bringing to life a number of performances spanning the exhibition dates. Kirsty Reilly, renowned Movement theatre director/choreographer and teacher, says:

“Homage to the Masterpiece was an idea initially born from an actor's process of creating a movement piece based on a classic artwork. This idea evolved into a multilayered, exciting production and 16th Street Acting Studio, Melbourne, was then approached to be part of a collaborative exhibition and performance at the gallery art@wintergarden, with proprietor Jill Shalless. I am passionate about this idea, for it brings a fresh way to appreciate art and transport the audience into the world of the artworks and the artist. The audience is able to experience the art three-dimensionally. Movement provides a universal language that can be interpreted in a personal way reaching the heart of audiences. Homage to the Masterpiece celebrates three great artists Vermeer, Bernini and Frieda Kahlo”.
