Lianne Gough, Feature Artist

"Road to Nhulunbuy"

The April exhibition at the gallery in the Geelong Wintergarden features the work of one of the resident artists, Lianne Gough, arising from a recent trip she made to Nhulunbuy in the Northern Territory as a conservation volunteer.

Nhulunbuy is as far east in Arnhem Land as you can go. It took the best part of 2 days to drive there in a 4 wheel drive truck on, at times, hideously bumpy roads. It was on the drive back to Darwin that Lianne planned these paintings based on the long road trip. She has included 3 portraits of fellow volunteers because her main interest in painting is portraiture. Every experience and encounter whether with nature or man, has left an indelible mark.

Road to Nhulunbuy skillfully and respectfully portrays the earth, the richness of the landscape, the distances, the immediacy of the bush, its connection with fire and some of the characters met along the way evoking the spirit of the place.

Some works by Jill Shalless and Faye Owenare also on display.
